Joining The Order of Saint Luke

Membership, first, lies in the daily living out of the Rule of Life and Service. If you believe yourself truly called to a life of discipline, prayer, and community (both dispersed and assembled) then The Order of Saint Luke may be the "place" to live out that committment.

Membership resides in the General Chapter, then in the local chapter if one is organized.

Membership Vows
In making the vows of membership, one declares that:

  • I will affirm the apostolic hope
  • I will live for the Church of Jesus Christ
  • I will magnify the sacraments
  • I will seek the sacramental life
  • I will promote the corporate worship of the Church
  • I accept the call to service as put forth by the discipline of the Church and the Order of Saint Luke
  • I will abide by the rules of the Order and will indicate my commitment by study, service, gifts and practice

The payment of gifts and tithes is to support the work of the Order but is not the basis for membership.

Life Membership
Once one has been a member for three years, he or she may apply to the Abbot to make life-long vows. Those seeking to make life-long vows enter a one year period of discernment with a mentor. The request is ultimately submitted to the discernment of the General Chapter when it is gathered for the annual retreat or convocation.
